About the Exhibition

The Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món (MuEC) in Barcelona, and the National Ainu Museum (NAM) are jointly presenting the special exhibition “AYNU”.

This exhibition represents NAM’s first overseas exhibition and the first in Barcelona to focus on the Ainu people. It introduces the Ainu language, history, culture, and worldview from both traditional and contemporary perspectives.

In the MuEC foyer, as an introduction to the exhibition, visitors can view exhibits related to Eudald Serra. Serra laid the foundation for the MuEC’s current Ainu-related collection through his collecting activities and donation of materials.

Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món

This exhibition comes about through the research activities carried out by NAM staff.
It is also part of the program for the “Catalonia-Japan Year”, held during the 2025 fiscal year.

Concurrently with this exhibition, from January 20 to March 29, 2026, there will be an exhibition in the NAM entrance lobby dedicated to Eudald Serra’s 1947 trip to Hokkaido.
